Install rapid on this machine for me, then help me make a first video with it.

rapid is a local video studio that Claude Code drives: a command-line tool and a small daemon that render videos on this computer, and a Claude Code plugin that brings its tools, skills, and pane. Its install guide is https://rapid.design/install and the full one is https://rapid.design/docs/install.md.

How to work:

- Do every step yourself, in order, with your shell tool. Don't ask me to confirm each step.
- After each step, run its check. Go on only when the check passes. If it fails, read the error, fix it, and check again.
- Ask me only when you need me: a password, a sign-in, or a choice only I can make. Then say exactly what to do, and wait.
- Install only what's missing. Don't upgrade or remove anything that already works.
- At the end, tell me in a few lines what you installed and anything I still have to do.

## 1. Check the system

Run `uname -s`. rapid is made for macOS (`Darwin`), and these steps use Homebrew. On Linux or Windows, tell me rapid is made for macOS and go on only if I say so, using the system's own package manager (apt, dnf, or pacman on Linux; winget on Windows) wherever a step says `brew`.

## 2. Install the prerequisites

Check each one, and install it only if its check fails:

| Need | Check | Install on macOS |
|---|---|---|
| Homebrew | `brew --version` | I run the install command from https://brew.sh in a terminal myself, since it asks for my password. Show it to me and wait. |
| Node 24 or later | `node --version` prints v24 or higher | `brew install node` |
| pnpm | `pnpm --version` | `corepack enable pnpm`, or `brew install pnpm` |
| Git and Git LFS | `git --version` and `git lfs version` | `brew install git git-lfs` |
| ffmpeg and ffprobe | `ffmpeg -version` and `ffprobe -version` | `brew install ffmpeg` |
| Google Chrome | `/Applications/Google Chrome.app` exists | `brew install --cask google-chrome` |
| Claude Code | `claude --version` | already here, since you are running in it |

Two more are optional, each for one feature. Install them only if I ask for that feature: `uv` (`brew install uv`) to cut videos to a track, and Blender (`brew install --cask blender`) for product shots from a 3D model. rapid's setup checks `uv` and treats it as optional; it doesn't check Blender.

Verify: run every check again. Each prints a version or finds the path.

## 3. Turn on Git LFS

Run `git lfs install`. The styles' videos and frames are kept in Git LFS, so this comes before the clone.

Verify: it prints that Git LFS is initialized.

## 4. Clone rapid

Clone it into the current folder unless I name another, but not into `~/rapid`, where rapid keeps its video projects:

```sh
git clone https://github.com/fakeplant/rapid.git
cd rapid
```

Work from the checkout for the rest of the steps. If the clone is refused for access, tell me and wait.

Verify: `git lfs ls-files` lists files, and `file styles/swiss/proof/poster.png` says PNG image data. If it says ASCII text, the files are LFS pointers: run `git lfs pull` and check again.

## 5. Install the packages

Run `pnpm install` in the checkout.

Verify: it exits 0 and ends with `Done`.

## 6. Make the rapid command

Run `node daemon/bin/rapid.ts setup`. It writes `~/.local/bin/rapid` and reports what the machine has and lacks. It never edits a shell profile.

If it says `~/.local/bin` is not on PATH, add `export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"` to my shell profile (`~/.zshrc` for zsh, the macOS default; `~/.bashrc` for bash) unless the line is already there, and run the same `export` in your own shell for the rest of these steps.

Verify: `command -v rapid` prints a path.

## 7. Check until clean

Run `rapid setup --check`. Each line is `ok` or `missing`, and a missing one names its fix. Apply each fix and run the check again, until it prints `rapid is ready.` and exits 0.

If `Claude sign-in` is missing, ask me to run `claude` in a terminal and sign in with `/login`, then check again.

Verify: `rapid setup --check` prints `rapid is ready.`

## 8. Install the plugin

In a shell:

```sh
claude plugin marketplace add fakeplant/rapid
claude plugin install rapid@rapid
```

These are the same as typing `/plugin marketplace add fakeplant/rapid` and `/plugin install rapid@rapid` in Claude Code; use the shell commands, since you can run those.

Verify: `claude plugin list` lists `rapid`.

Then tell me the plugin loads in the next Claude Code session, not this one.

## 9. A first video

Ask me what video I want: what it is, who it's for, how long, and its shape (vertical, square, or wide). A sentence is enough.

- If the `rapid-brief` skill is available to you now, use it with my answer: it asks at most one round of questions, writes the brief, and starts the video.
- If it isn't (the plugin loads in a new session), tell me to start a new Claude Code session and send it one line, which you write out for me with my answer in it: `Make a video with rapid: <what I said>`. That session's `rapid-brief` skill takes it from there.

Verify: the video started. `rapid jobs` lists its job, and `rapid open` opens the screening page at it, where the storyboard and scenes show as they are made.
